The campaign, which is
being held on a national, regional and local level, will be the
largest earthquake awareness campaign ever held in New Zealand.
Emergency management officer Jock Robinson said the campaign is
designed to get New Zealanders practicing for the 'big one'.
He aims to get as many people in Palmerston North to take part as
possible.
"Let's make this city the best in New Zealand in terms of
preparedness and the number of participants," he said. "There's no
reason why everyone can't join in this exercise, it doesn't matter
where they are at the time, and if they're at work then they should
encourage others to join in too."
"It would be great to see every school or education provider
registered so that all the students in the City are participating
too," Jock said.
Registering for the event is simple at www.getthru.govt.nz where individuals, schools
and businesses can register. The site can keep track of the number
of registrations across the nation. To date the number of
registrations in Palmerston North stands at 6406.
PNCC will be posting updates on its Facebook
page to encourage others to participate.
