Youth Council Scholarships Fund and Youth Council Initiatives Fund

These funds aim to celebrate our city’s young people by inspiring and supporting them to take up growth opportunities in sports, the arts, community endeavours or academia.

Applications are now open for our Youth Council Scholarships Fund and Youth Council Initiatives Fund.

The scholarships and grants can range from $500 to $2000.

The assessment process includes an initial application through SmartyGrants, an interview with shortlisted applicants and a moderation session conducted by our Youth Council with the assistance of Council staff.

Youth Council Scholarships Fund

We’re looking for young people who show one or more of these qualities:

  • Strong involvement in sports, arts, community activities, or academics.
  • A proven contribution to Palmerston North through active participation and leadership.
  • Motivation and potential for growth, with a desire to learn new skills and take on responsibilities.

Applicants must live within the Palmerston North city boundaries and be aged 12-24 years at time of application.

Note applications may be completed by youth themselves or a nominee seeking to nominate an eligible person.

Lower priority will be given to applicants who have previously received a Scholarship fund.

Youth Council Initiatives Fund

The project, activity, or event should show:

  • How it will help achieve goals 2, 3, and/or 4 of our City Strategy.
  • How it will encourage more young people aged 12-24 to get involved in sports, arts, community activities, or academics at a high level.
