Pasifika Community Centre upgrade

We're upgrading and expanding the Pasifika Community Centre at Bill Brown Park to better serve our Pasifika and wider community.

This project is part of our approved long-term plan for Palmy, with $3.9 million set aside to make it happen.

This upgrade will ensure we can continue to meet the needs of the communities who use this space

The redevelopment includes:

  • expanding the main hall area for events
  • installing a commercial sized kitchen for community use
  • creating workspaces for people to work from – which could include agencies hosting drop-in sessions for the community.

These changes aim to make the centre a real hub for Pasifika communities, providing better spaces for social, cultural, and support activities.

Project timeline

Right now, we’re in the design phase and working with architects to fine-tune the layout and incorporate cultural elements that reflect our community’s needs and values. Construction is expected to begin in the second half of 2025.

A dedicated group has been set up to guide the project

The group includes six representatives from the Pasifika community, including members from:

  • Papaioea Pasifika Community Trust
  • Niuvaka Trust
  • Pasifika Reference Group.

Council staff and the design team are also part of the group, working closely with the community to get it right.
