  • Proposed replacement of existing 40km/h VSL on Fitzherbert Avenue and College Street to 30km/h VSL.
  • Permanent 30km/h on Huia Street, Manawaroa Street, and Graham Street.

Reason for proposed change

Image shows injury and crash numbers around Palmerston North Girl's High School in the past 10 years

Existing 40km/h VSLs to change to 30km/h VSLs, which covers the direct accesses to the school.

Permanent 30km/h proposed on Manawaroa Street due to the proximity to the school as well as the access to the Victoria Esplanade where there will be higher numbers of pedestrians in this area.

Covers the immediate streets around the school where there will be a high volume of pedestrians and pick-up/drop-off area. The average speed that people are travelling on these two roads is already less than 30km/h.
