The name 'Dunhuang', means to 'to flourish and prosper,' giving an indication of the town's prominence in ancient China.
The art featured is from the Mogao Caves, one of China's most famous UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The complex consists of 492 Buddhist cave temples that were carved into the cliffs of the Mingsha Mountain over 1,000 years ago.
