Get involved in building the future of Pasifika in Palmy

A single-story building with flat access set in a park.

The home base of Palmy’s Pasifika community is getting ready for a makeover and we’re looking for dedicated people to help make sure it’s amazing!

Under our recently adopted Long-Term Plan, the city’s Pasifika Community Centre at Bill Brown Park is set to be refurbished and expanded with a budget of $3.8M. The design phase for the project will begin in the next few months, with the construction work beginning in 2025.

Council is working in partnership with our Pasifika Reference Group, the Papaioea Pasifika Community Trust and Niuvaka Trust to form a steering group of people keen to be involved with the design of the expansion.

Steering Group members must live in Palmerston North and be available to attend regular meetings (either online or in person). Members should also have good relationships and networks in the Pasifika Community and be able to work effectively in a team. A broad understanding of the issues relevant to this project would also be a bonus. We’re particularly keen to hear from people of Pasifika descent and young people from any Pasifika community.

If you know of someone who may be interested in being part of the steering group, we’d love to hear from them by Wednesday 18 September 2024. To register your interest in this volunteer position, please email us at communitydevelopment@pncc.govt.nz with a short description of yourself, why you’d like to be part of this exciting project and what knowledge or expertise you can bring to the group.

We’ll be in touch with all candidates soon after the expressions of interest period closes.
