Stage two construction of Tamakuku Terrace gets underway
Published on 25 September 2024
The next chapter for Tamakuku Terrace begins as we kick off the second stage of construction, adding 35 new sections to this growing neighbourhood.
This week, we gathered with Rangitāne o Manawatū, elected members, and some of the current residents to carry out a special blessing marking the start of construction.
Mayor Grant Smith says that projects like these are essential to meeting housing demand, while supporting a more vibrant and inclusive city.
"It's exciting to see us enabling more homes for our growing community. We're helping to create a place where people can settle, grow, and thrive – right here in Palmerston North. Once complete, this will also pave the way for further development in the area, with Summerset retirement village planning to start expanding this summer."
The initial stage of work focuses on installing stormwater infrastructure, followed by significant earthworks to prepare the site. Early next year, the focus will shift to road construction and drainage installation, setting the groundwork for new homes.
Stage two of construction is expected to be complete in June 2025 and will cost around $9.4 million, which includes the primary works as well as additional contracts for power, streetlights, fibre, and landscaping.
Mayor Smith also highlighted how well the neighbourhood is evolving already, with a total of 37 sections already being snapped up.
"Tamakuku Terrace is really coming to life. It’s wonderful to see beautiful homes popping up left, right, and centre – it's transforming into a vibrant and welcoming community."
All sections will offer stunning views of the Tararua and Ruahine ranges. With current sections starting from just $275,000 and a variety of house and land packages available, building your dream home at Tamakuku Terrace is more achievable than ever.
