The Palmerston North Performing Arts Trust is excited to announce the successful recipients of this year’s round of funding for the Arts Heart Educational Development Project Scheme. Three incredible projects have been chosen, each designed to nurture young talent and enrich the performing arts scene in Palmy.

Margaret May, Chair of the Performing Arts Trust, says the funding initiative is all about empowering local groups to develop and showcase the next generation of performers.

“These grants help local groups provide workshops, masterclasses, and summer schools where young people can immerse themselves in the arts,” says Margaret. “Each program is intensive and will finish with public performances that celebrate what participants have learned.”

This year, three successful recipients have received grants to go towards their projects:

  • Palmerston North Dance Association – $4,300 for ballet and jazz dance workshops.
  • Palmerston North Theatre Trust – Centrepoint Theatre – $3,500 to deliver theatre masterclasses for Pasifika youth.
  • Manawatū Summer Shakespeare – $5,000 to fund mentorship and skills training for their 2025 production of The Tempest.

Margaret congratulated the successful applicants and expressed excitement for the future.

“We can’t wait to see the impact these initiatives will have on our arts community. It’s wonderful to support projects that inspire young performers, and we wish all the groups every success.”

The grant recipients will provide updates on their projects, with outcomes shared on Council’s website next year.
