Palmerston North City Council is seeking feedback on our draft Waste Management and Minimisation Bylaw and Administration Manual.
This bylaw helps us manage rubbish and recycling in our city, covering things like kerbside collections, drop-off spots like the Ferguson Street Recycling Centre, and public rubbish and recycling bins. It also includes rules for other waste collectors and managing waste at events.
We’re proposing a few key changes, including:
- additional conditions that we could impose on commercial waste collectors when we license them
- the power to require site waste management and minimisation plans for large building or demolition projects, to minimise the amount of construction and demolition waste going to landfill
- stronger requirements for managing waste at events.
