Pigs

You can't keep pigs in the Palmerston North urban area. This is anywhere zoned residential or village in the District Plan.

You can keep pigs on rural land, but there are requirements you have to meet. This includes conditions for maintaining pigsties, tanks and troughs, and storing pig food.

Other livestock

You can keep stock in the urban area as long as you meet the conditions outlined in the bylaw.

All animals should have an adequate and appropriate living environment for their species. You must meet their need for companionship, and provide space, shelter and shade.
