Papaioea Place project wraps up with a new tenants’ lounge

After more than a year of construction, the brand new tenants’ lounge and final seven units at Papaioea Place are now complete, marking the end of the project.

Since the redevelopment project kicked off in 2019, we have created an additional 38 new social housing units, bringing the complex to a total of 85 homes.

The units have each been designed to be open-plan and future-proofed for varying mobility needs. With double-glazed windows and top-notch insulation, all units have earned 4 and 5-Star Lifemark certifications, ensuring comfort and sustainability for our residents.

The new tenants’ lounge, 'Whakaruruhau,' has also been carefully crafted to be a warm and inviting space where residents can connect with neighbours and host celebrations with their whānau.

The fully accessible lounge, complete with couches, a dining table, kitchenette and toilets, is poised to become the heart of Papaioea Place, and act as an extension of tenants’ homes. The outdoor area is also fit with vegetable gardens, bench seats and a pergola.

This shovel-ready project was made possible under the Government’s post Covid-19 Response and Recovery Fund, contributing $4.6 million for the development.
