Planning for growth
For a such a large area we are planning for its development in two stages. The first stage is where we thoroughly investigate the suitability of the study area for residential development and other compatible uses. This is being undertaken by a specialist team and culminates in the preparation of a development masterplan in early 2021.
The second stage is a formal plan change process. This is where the District Plan zoning of the land (which is mainly rural) is assessed for changing to mainly residential, to provide for new housing over 20 to 30 years. This process is prescribed by the Resource Management Act 1991 and provides for further specialist assessment, public submissions, and a hearing. This will happen through 2021 and 2022.
Read the factsheet for more information about this project, including the issues and opportunities for stage one.
When the investigations are finished, we'll share our findings and ask for your feedback. You'll be able to share your thoughts throughout this two-stage process.
