“While the Tattoo was to feature a large number of New Zealand’s top pipe and brass bands and kapa haka, a significant part of the event was to feature military displays that included firearms and explosives,” says Chief Executive Heather Shotter.
“Following the recent events in Christchurch, Council considers it would be inappropriate to host an event of this nature.
“Council acknowledges and appreciates all the support the large number of performers and New Zealand Defence Force personnel have put into preparation for the April event.
“We regret the inconvenience or disappointment this brings for performers and those who have already purchased tickets, but we are confident they will support our view that this is the right thing to do at this time.”
All ticket purchasers will receive a full refund. This can be arranged by emailing email@example.com with customer details.
New Zealand Tattoo postponement Q&As
Why has the event been postponed?
Council is mindful that members of our community may be struggling in the aftermath of the Christchurch attacks and has decided to postpone the Tattoo as a result.
While the Tattoo was to feature a large number of New Zealand’s top pipe and brass bands and kapa haka, a large portion of the event included military displays featuring explosives, firearms and aircraft. The noise, vibrations and sight will carry outside the arena. This could be upsetting or distressing to some and we want to ensure everyone feels safe in our city.
Could the show have continued without the use of the sensitive content?
With only three weeks until the show, there was too much of this content to review and remove, and not enough time to change it.
Is there a new planned date for the event?
No new date has been confirmed yet. We hope to update you by midyear about a new date for the event.
Will we be first to know about the new event date?
Yes. Once we have a new date for the event, current ticket holders will be given the opportunity to buy tickets before they go on sale to the general public. We cannot guarantee that you’ll get the same seating but we’ll do our best to seat you in the same area.
We’ll be in touch with you via email. Rest assured that we’ll give you ample time to repurchase tickets before we go on sale to the general public.
Can I hold my ticket for the new date?
No. As it may be some time before a new date is confirmed, we are asking all ticketholders to claim a refund now.
As an existing ticket holder, we’ll give you an opportunity to buy tickets to the new event before they go on sale to the general public.
Why do we have to go through the refund process?
Currently, all ticket funds are held in trust by the ticketing company, TicketDirect. Because a new date is yet to be confirmed, we find it appropriate to refund all purchases to clear TicketDirect of any funds.
How do I get a refund for my tickets? Will I get a full refund?
We will provide full refunds to ticket purchasers, including any booking fees.
Ticket refunds can be arranged by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org with the following customer details:
- Full name
- Email address
- Phone number
- Ticket details
- Bank details (if ticket was purchased using Eftpos or cash)
TicketDirect will start processing your refund request as soon as you supply these details.
How will my money be refunded?
If you bought tickets online or through the call centre, TicketDirect will refund the full amount to the card you used when when purchasing. If that card has expired, a refund can be arranged to a nominated bank account. TicketDirect will assist with any queries and necessary arrangements.
If you bought tickets through an outlet with a debit card or cash, you’ll need to provide your bank details. TicketDirect will credit your nominated bank account.
Only people who have purchased tickets can receive a refund, complimentary tickets will not be refunded.
What if I won my ticket?
We will honour and send you new complimentary tickets once a new date has been confirmed.
When will my refund appear?
Please allow up to 21 days for your refund to be processed and cleared.
Can I get cover for the loss of my travel and accommodation?
We hope people understand the reason behind the cancellation and regret that this may cause some loss or inconvenience. You may like to ask your travel or accommodation provider to take the reason for the postponement into consideration.
