Our iconic bridge and pathway won the Built Excellence Award for Walking and Built Excellence Award for Cycling at the On the Go Awards.
The awards recognise excellence in design, engineering and construction of transport infrastructure which has had a significant impact on encouraging more people of all ages and abilities to walk/cycle.
The awards are only given out bi-annually.
Mayor Grant Smith says it’s great to see He Ara Kotahi acknowledged again.
“Over the past 18 months our residents and visitors have fallen in love with He Ara Kotahi and it is far more popular than anyone ever envisaged. More than 600,000 people have made trips over the bridge and pathway – six times Palmy's population. As well as playing a key transport commuter route between Massey University and Linton Army Camp, it has become an events space, a recreational activity and most importantly, got our residents and visitors connecting with our greatest taonga – the Manawatū River.”
