The future use of 17 Summerhays Street

We’re proposing some changes for how 17 Summerhays Street, the former Terrace End Bowling Club site, might be used in the future. Council’s preferred option is to repurpose the site for housing, but we need to know what the public think before we can make an informed decision.

The vacant site at 17 Summerhays Street is the former home of the Terrace End Bowling Club.

The Terrace End Bowling Club merged with the Northern Bowling in mid-2020. The existing building faces security and compliance risks that mean it will need to be demolished next year. This has freed up the site to consider what its future use could be.

To achieve Council’s preferred use, we'll need to amend the District Plan to rezone the balance of land to residential.

Before making a formal decision on the future use of 17 Summerhays Street, we'd like to hear what you think about our preferred option and the alternatives outlined in the statement of proposal.

We’ve organised a time for you to come and familiarise yourself with 17 Summerhays Street. Join us between 1pm and 3pm on Sunday 20 June to walk around the site and ask any questions before you make a submission.
