Green waste recycling

Green waste is garden waste that can be composted, like lawn clippings, weeds, tree prunings and leaves. It does not include flax, cabbage trees or bamboo.

Awapuni Resource Recovery Park turns green waste into compost that you can buy for your garden. Drop off all your green waste here, or at our transfer station in Ashhurst.

You can now recycle your soft plastics right here in Palmerston North.

Green waste exclusions

We don't accept the following items. Please don't put them in your green waste.

  • flax, cabbage trees, palms and bamboo
  • tree trunks
  • branches over 250mm thick
  • food and kitchen waste
  • concrete and stones
  • dirt /soil
  • treated wood waste
  • general rubbish
